Gigawatt DRC, an affiliate of Gigawatt Global, is leading a national rollout of solar-powered metro grids across 45 cities in the DRC. With a focus on scalable infrastructure, the platform targets over 1 million new electricity connections, aligned with the World Bank’s Mission300 goal for universal access. Anchored by a shovel-ready pilot in Nioki, the program has secured signed MOUs with both the DRC public utility, ANSER, and the Ministry of Industry, to develop an on-grid 100MW solar project in Kinshasa, and has an integrated Energy Hub model for rural economic empowerment.
Gigawatt Burundi, a Gigawatt Global affiliate, is expanding access to sustainable electricity through its innovative Energy Hub model. With 10 rural sites allocated by the Ministry of Energy, the platform focuses on productive use of energy for local businesses, services, and agriculture, in alignment with the World Bank’s Mission300 program. Gigawatt Burundi has been approved for a 10MW solar extension of the Mubuga utility-scale solar field, including battery storage and community connections. The team is also co-developing a 13MW hydro project with SOTEM on the Rushiha River, leveraging shared infrastructure and streamlined deployment from our existing solar operations.
